Why obscure an image ? Creating obscurity in a photographic image  can serve a number of  purposes:

  1. The creation of mystery or a sense of movement

  2. Invoking  curiosity for  greater viewer engagement

  3. The withholding of full knowledge in order to  heighten viewer intrigue

  4.  [the] Development of unsettling imagery

American filmmaker David Lynch has been most influential with regards to the creation of obscurity in his films. Viewing Lynch films over the years one can’t help but notice his nightmarish logic, cryptic imagery and  psychological darkness that  embellishes his story lines. He creates an atmosphere of profound obscurity.
